Custom outdoor kitchens in Sarasota and Manatee counties

Shore Home designs and builds custom outdoor kitchens for homes in Sarasota and Manatee counties, from a grill island on the patio to a full covered kitchen with bar seating, a pizza oven and refrigeration. We plan the layout, the gas, water and electric, the materials that hold up to Florida sun and humidity, and the paver floor it sits on.

  • Stone, stucco and tile finishes

  • Bar counters and seating
  • Gas, water and electric planning, with permits
  • Paver floors and patios around the kitchen

From grill island to outdoor room

Some homeowners want a well-built grill station next to the pool. Others want a second kitchen outside, with seating for a crowd. Shore Home builds both, and everything in between.

How we plan an outdoor kitchen

  1. How you cook and host. How many people, what you cook, where guests sit. That sets the size and the appliance list.
  2. Layout. Grill, prep space, sink and refrigeration in a sensible order, with landing space beside the grill and room to walk behind the cook.
  3. Utilities. Gas, water and electric are planned early, run under the patio before pavers go down, and permitted.
  4. Materials. Outdoor-rated appliances, a masonry base and a countertop that handles sun and rain.
  5. Build. Base, utilities, countertop, appliances, then the finished floor and any cover.

About our reviews

Outdoor kitchens: common questions

What materials work best for an outdoor kitchen in Florida?

Heat, humidity, rain and salt air are hard on materials. Stainless steel appliances rated for outdoor use, masonry or stone bases, and sealed granite or other outdoor-rated countertops hold up well. We avoid materials that swell, rust or fade quickly outdoors.

Should my outdoor kitchen be covered?

A roof, pergola or pavilion shades the cook, protects appliances and finishes from rain and sun, and makes the kitchen usable more of the year. If you cover a grill, you need enough height and ventilation, and sometimes a vent hood. See our covered outdoor kitchens page for more.

Do outdoor kitchens need permits?

Gas lines, electrical circuits, plumbing and roof structures generally need permits and inspections in Sarasota and Manatee counties. A simple grill island without new utilities may not. We confirm what your project needs and pull the permits.

Can you build the patio and the kitchen together?

Yes, and it is usually the best way to do it. Utility lines run under the patio before the pavers go down, and the kitchen footprint and the patio size are planned as one space.
